A person was killed and at least 11 other wounds early Sunday when shots broke out during a party in Catawba County, North Carolina, authorities said.
The shooting occurred around 12:45 am in a residence in Mountain View, about 60 miles northwest of Charlotte, according to a Social Network Declaration Published by the Sheriff’s Office of Catawba County.
“Our research indicates that more than one shooter was involved in the incident. We are still working to determine when they arrived, how they arrived, what was their reasoning for their presence. In addition, his reason,” said Major Aaron Turk, of the Catawba County Sheriff department, at a press conference on Sunday afternoon.
Turk said that the crime scene, which is estimated to be around two acres, was still being prosecuted for evidence by researchers. When a journalist asked him how many shots they were shot in the incident, Turk said: “While I’m here, more than 80 shots were shot.”
Turk said the shooting broke out in a residence where a part attended by up to 100 people was in progress.

He said the shooting occurred almost two hours after the agents had gone to the same residence after receiving a noise complaint. Turk said those who attended the party fulfilled the orders of the deputies to reject music.
Turk said researchers have not discovered any evidence indicating that the shooting was connected to the previous noise complaint.
The agents and officers of the Sheriff of Catawba County of the nearby Hickory Police Department went to the house after several people who call 911 reported that several people were shot, Turk said.
One of the shooting victims was declared dead on the scene, Turk said.
The Sheriff Catawba Sheriff identified the man killed in the shooting as Shawn Patrick Hood, 58, from Lenoir, North Carolina.
Of the other 11 wounded, one was critical and several remained hospitalized, authorities said.
So far no arrests have been announced. Researchers from the Hickory Police Department, special agents of the North Carolina State Research Office, the FBI and the Federal Office of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were on the shooting scene on Sunday afternoon, which tried to establish a reason for mortal violence and identify those responsible, the Sheriff of Catawba Count at the Press Conference on Sunday afternoon.
“I want everyone to know that we are going to work together tirelessly and diligently to identify the people responsible for this act,” Brown said.
Witnesses told the ABC Charlotte affiliated station WSOC that many of those who attended the party were local high school students.
“As soon as I heard the shots, everyone began to disperse, bend their heads, run towards our cars, towards security. And I called my friend and he said: ‘Call 911. I need help,'” said one of the adolescents attendees to the teenage party to Wsoc.
