The Democratic Senator denied access to El Salvador prison with Abrego García

Senator Chris Van Hollen, D-MD., Said it was blocked on Thursday to enter the prison of El Salvador occupied by Maryland’s resident whom the courts say that he was wrongly deported from the United States last month.

Maryland’s senator, who flew to the country on Wednesday, shared a photo in X on Thursday night sitting with Abrego García.

The Supreme Court and a federal judge of Maryland ordered that the United States government “facilitate” the return of Abrego García to the United States after the Department of Justice said in judicial presentations that the 29 -year -old father was unjustly deported due to an “administrative error.” The Trump administration claimed that it cannot bring it back and said outside the court that Abrego García is a member of the MS-13 gang.

Chris Newman joined Van Hollen, who said he is the lawyer of Abrego García’s mother, and said they are trying to verify the condition of the deported man.

The video also showed Van Hollen and Newman talking to the prison guards, who were visibly shaking his head “No”.

“These soldiers were ordered to prevent us from going further from this place,” said Van Hollen. “I understand that we are now about three kilometers from Cecot, and as you can see, they are letting other cars pass, but they arrested us because they are under the orders of not allowing us to proceed to verify the well -being of Kilmar Abrego García.”

Van Hollen then told the journalists that he made his request to visit the prison to the United States embassy, which he later approved the request to the Government of El Salvador.

The senator said he also asked the vice president of El Salvador on Wednesday to visit the facilities.

“I emphasized that my goal was to verify your health and well -being,” he said.

The senator also said that the prisoner has not had contact with anyone out of Cecot, which said it is a violation of international law.

“El Salvador is part of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. El Salvador has signed and ratified that pact, and that Covenant says, and I quote:” A person detained or imprisoned will have the right to communicate and consult with his legal advisor, “Van Allen told reporters.

The White House hit Van Hollen for making the trip and advocating Abrego García on Wednesday. The Administration and the Department of Justice have affirmed with little evidence, that Abrego García is a member of a gang.

The Department of Justice has not accused Abrego García of any crime related to gang and his alleged membership of MS-13 has been disputed in court.

A federal judge and the Supreme Court ordered the Government to take all the measures available to facilitate the return of Abrego García to the United States, and on Wednesday, the Department of Justice presented a notice that it is appellant.

The Fourth Court of Appeals of the United States Circuit denied the Trump administration application on Thursday.

President Donald Trump evaluated the situation on Thursday and said he is not involved.

“I was chosen to get rid of those criminals, get them out of our count, Ry or keep them, but to get them out of our country. And I don’t see how judges can keep that president’s authority away,” he told reporters.
